Women Against Violence and Expediency Initiative (WAVEHI) NGO in Partnership with African Women’s Development Fund, successfully trained 4 gender advocate that would be working in the community on issues of women empowerment, sexual violence prevention and sexual reproductive health rights. The four gender advocates have been trained for four weeks and have completed the training and are now qualified as gender advocates.

Gender Advocacy encompasses the development perspective and process that is participatory and empowering, equitable, sustainable, free from violence, respectful of human rights, supportive of self-determination and actualization of human potentials.   It prevents violence against women and girls. It is essential for economic prosperity, Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. And can achieve sustainable human development without hindrance. It also helps to boost the economy

The training is anchored on the premises that gender equality such as increasing women’s access to health care, employment and credit can accelerate economic growth and reduces poverty, and that persistent gender inequalities reduce prospects for economic growth.

The 4 trainees received a certification of completion and were encouraged to create and actively participate in a platform for peer learning and knowledge sharing in the community and on key gender related emerging issues.

The Gender Advocate Training also hinges on ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls. They will be working at the local and national levels by raising awareness on the elimination of systemic forms of discrimination against women and girls.
